09/07/2024 - EFRAG is seeking technical staff under short-term contracts to enhance impact and sector expertise in its ESRS work

To ensure that EFRAG's standard-setting and implementation support activities are prepared following a unique multi-stakeholder approach, EFRAG seeks additional civil society, impact and SME experts as well as other experts. Expertise in specific sectors will be an added value. Therefore, EFRAG is looking to hire technical experts – freelancers (natural persons or one-person companies), paid secondments and temporary employees – under short-term contracts with a start date in the second half of September or the beginning of October. Applications are preferably received by 19 August 2024.

EFRAG provides technical advice to the European Commission in the form of draft European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) and provides related implementation support. EFRAG is currently working on the ESRS for high-impact sectors and financial institutions.

EFRAG wants to raise the awareness of a wide range of stakeholders and involve those stakeholders who have been less present in the preparation of the sector-specific ESRS. EFRAG is focusing in particular on civil society experts, impact experts and SME experts but also on experts who may not be sufficiently represented in EFRAG's teams, such as sector experts, due to limited resources within the particular stakeholder groups.

The experts that EFRAG is looking for can work under one of the three following bases: freelance contract from EEA countries (be it as a natural person or a one-person company*), temporary employee contract or paid secondment.

We are looking for experts with:

  • relevant expertise in the abovementioned areas with a minimum of five years of experience (we will prioritise the most experienced experts);
  • relevant sustainability or sustainability reporting knowledge;
  • relevant knowledge of the following sectors:
    • priority sectors (the approval of EFRAG's Exposure Drafts is expected in 2025): Agriculture, Food and Beverage, Energy Production and Motor vehicles;
    • other sectors belonging to the following families of sectors (the approval of EFRAG's Exposure Drafts is expected in 2026 or later): Construction/ Real Estate, Water and Waste Services, Entertainment, Health Care, Hospitality, Manufacturing, Sales and Trade, Services and Technology;
  • good knowledge of ESRS;
  • knowledge of current sustainability reporting developments;
  • good drafting skills;
  • capacity to work in teams (good team spirit, collegiality); and
  • good command of the English language.

We are looking for experts with full-time, or close to full-time, availability to work for EFRAG. The experts may work remotely, attending only a limited number of in-person meetings in Brussels.

The work is expected to start in the second half of September 2024 or the beginning of October 2024. The length of the temporary period would need to be decided on, but it would be 12 to 14 months at the most based on expertise and availability. Depending on its operational needs, EFRAG could renew some of these contracts at the end of the initial period.

An interview may be part of the selection process.

Please apply by sending your CV and, in case of a freelance contract, your expected daily fee (EFRAG has no VAT number and has to be invoiced including VAT) to nominations@EFRAG.org by19 August 2024.
