Heinz Hense

Heinz Hense is Head of Accounting Excellence at ThyssenKrupp, a diversified industrial group based in Germany and generating annual sales of around Euro 40 billions with operations in more than 80 countries. His responsibilities include, inter alia, the preparation of annual and interim financial statements and notes in accordance with IFRS and the definition of group-wide financial accounting policies based on IFRS.

He has developed in depth experience in accounting issues relating to various industry lines, including, but not limited to, steelmaking, automotive supplies, engineering, elevator manufacturing and servicing, industrial services. Being part of a large public company, he gained insight into many complex accounting issues that are not industry-specific, e.g. accounting for management remuneration, post-retirement obligations, structured finance, corporate restructurings, M&A, etc. He is familiar with accounting and general business practice in multiple jurisdictions, including many European countries and the US.

During his professional career, he has established relationships with many constituents of the Accounting and Auditing Community in Germany, namely preparers, auditors and academia.

A former member of the Accounting Standards Interpretations Committee of the Accounting Standards Committee of Germany, he has been involved in the introduction of IFRS in Germany right from the beginning.

Heinz Hense graduated as Diplom-Kaufmann from Westfälische Wilhelms Universität in Münster (University of Münster), Germany where he also worked as a research assistant. He holds a Doctorate in Business Administration from the same University with a dissertation in Accounting.
